RGH, PA - Herd Racing's entry in the APBA North American Powerboat Championship finished a surprising sixth July 3rd on the Allegheny River in downtown Pittsburgh.
The day started with pilot Dana Tomes qualifying the boat 8th for the first of two qualifying races. The #75 Herd boat, which bore a large Jesus Fish on the sides, finished 8th in the first 10-mile qualifier. The entry finished 6th in the second heat race to earn a 10th place starting position in the 10-boat North American Championship final on Saturday evening.
"We were so blessed today in every aspect, Tomes said. "We had absolutely no mechanical issues all day and we got better and better all day long. It couldn't have gone much better."
The team will compete next in the APBA's Regional Championship July 10-11 in Marietta, Ohio.
Crew Chief Jeramey Wentz said the day was productive from start to finish.
"We got some fine tuning done on the boat, we got seat time, we got experience and we brought the boat back in the same condition we started in."
